The Global Women Leaders Voices (GWL Voices) Dialogue was not just an event; it was a transformative experience that reshaped my perspective on a career in diplomacy and international relations. As an international student pursuing Business Administration and International Relations at IE University, I am constantly seeking opportunities to broaden my horizons and deepen my understanding of global issues. The GWL Voices’  Dialogue offered me this and so much more.

The dialogue served as a melting pot of inspiration, bringing together some of the most incredible women who have significantly impacted the diplomatic sphere. Their stories of perseverance and success illuminated the path for future women leaders like myself. What struck me most was the accessibility of these role models. Despite their towering achievements, they were approachable and shared their experiences and wisdom generously. This human connection demystified the journey to success in diplomacy, making the once-distant dream seem attainable.

The GWL Voices Dialogue also gave me the unparalleled opportunity to witness speeches and participate in discussions led by global leaders whose careers I have long admired, such as; Hillary Clinton, Michelle Bachelet, Susana Malcorra, Arancha González Laya, Sima Bahous and María Fernanda Espinosa, among many others. Their collective presence brought a wealth of knowledge and experience, offering unique insights into the challenges and triumphs of leading on the world stage. Their stories underscored the importance of perseverance, strategic thinking, and the relentless pursuit of equality and justice in shaping global policies and initiatives. This rare convergence of global minds was not only inspiring but also reaffirmed my commitment to making a difference in the world of diplomacy and beyond, highlighting the significant role women play in driving global change and innovation.

One of the highlights of my participation was the fireside chat titled “Women in the Digital World: Will Algorithms Perpetuate the Divide?” This session opened my eyes to the profound impact of technology on society and the pivotal role women must play in shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI). The discussion delved into the risks associated with unchecked technological advancement, particularly the perpetuation of biases and inequalities. It was a clarion call for action to ensure that AI development is guided by principles of fairness, sustainability, and inclusion. The realization that civil society, along with governments and corporations, plays a crucial role in advocating for equitable technological progress was a powerful takeaway.

Another pivotal moment was learning about the initiative of Rotation for Equality and Madam Secretary General. Despite living in an era with unprecedented female representation, the stark underrepresentation of women in key roles within international organizations was disheartening. The statistics shared during the dialogue were a stark reminder of the long road ahead. With less than 15% of roles in multilateralism held by women and only four female Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly since 1948, the necessity for women’s leadership in these spheres cannot be overstated. This discussion underscored the importance of not only including women in these organizations but also amplifying their voices and ensuring they lead.

The GWL Voices Dialogue reinforced my belief in the power of knowledge transfer and the importance of empowering the next generation of women leaders. The personal connections I made, coupled with the insights gained from the discussions, have equipped me with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the realm of diplomacy and international relations.

As I reflect on my experiences at the GWL Voices Dialogue, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to learn from so many accomplished women. The dialogue was a testament to the strength of unity and women’s incredible potential to drive positive change globally. As I continue my academic journey, I am more committed than ever to contributing to a future where women’s voices are heard and valued at every level of decision-making.

The journey ahead is long and fraught with challenges, but the lessons learned, and the connections made at the GWL Voices Dialogue will be my guiding light. Together, we can break barriers, challenge the status quo, and build a more inclusive and equitable world for future generations.
