BIO

Ms. Louise Fréchette was Deputy of the Secretary General of the United Nations from 1998 to 2006. Prior to this she pursued a career in the Public Service of Canada, serving as Ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Associate Deputy Minister of France and Deputy Minister of National Defence. She also served a three-year term at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, working on a major research project on nuclear energy and the world’s security.

She joined the CARE Canada Board in 2007 and was later elected its Chair, and in 2016 she became the new Chair of the CARE International Supervisory Board.

In 1998, Ms. Fréchette was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
